Sunset Summit Estate

A terraced mountain landscape where outdoor living, native canopy restoration, and panoramic Blue Ridge views come together in balance.

Overview

The mountain was always going to win. The design just had to be honest about that.

Perched above North Asheville with panoramic views of downtown and the surrounding Blue Ridge, this residential estate was designed around a simple truth: the landscape is the feature. Terraced gathering areas step down the hillside in an inevitable sequence, with a central fireplace, a tucked-away hot tub, and multiple vantage points positioned to capture the full sweep of a mountain sunset.

Stone stairs and natural rock elements move through the landscape without forcing it, keeping the connection between built and wild close and easy. A redesigned driveway and entry courtyard bring the same care to the arrival experience.

In partnership with the City of Asheville Tree Commission and the team at Heartwood Tree Service, hazardous overgrown pines were replaced with a diverse mix of native canopy trees, improving long-term ecological health and site resilience without sacrificing a single view.

The result is a landscape that feels deeply rooted in its setting, balancing everyday comfort with the enduring character of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
